TL;DR: On November 2, 2026, SpaceXSI published a post about Data Bot, a Team Bot in Grok Bot that the company's data science team teaches. It can query the warehouse, run analyses, build charts or dashboards, and join Slack channels for scheduled reports. SpaceXSI estimates it handled about 70 hours of work in the prior week that would otherwise have landed on the data team. This is SpaceXSI's own account of an internal tool.
What SpaceXSI announced
In Giving every team a data scientist with Grok Bot, Sally Xu of SpaceXSI describes Data Bot as a Team Bot the data science team built so colleagues can get answers the way a data scientist would. Unlike personal bots that depend on what each owner teaches them, Data Bot draws on a shared set of skills the data team maintains and improves for everyone.
The post frames the problem as a bottleneck: a small data team cannot answer every straightforward question that still needs their expertise. Data Bot is meant to take that load while leaving harder judgment calls with the humans.
What Data Bot can do, per the post
SpaceXSI says Data Bot can:
- Query the company's data warehouse and return results in the form each person prefers.
- Investigate metric changes, including breaking a spike or drop down by segment or region and checking holidays or logging changes before blaming a product change.
- Help with experiments: A/B setup, power analyses, exposure balance, sample bias, rollouts and readouts.
- Build charts and turn a chart in chat into a Databricks or Hex dashboard.
- Follow data-engineering practices for dbt models, pipeline alerts and analytics event logging.
- Join Slack channels, answer questions there and run scheduled workflows such as weekly metric updates.
It also gets shared memory for day-to-day lessons, such as who owns a pipeline or that a past drop was a regional holiday. Team Bot managers can review those proposed memory additions and approve or reject them before they are shared with every user of the bot.
How SpaceXSI says teams use it
The post gives internal examples. A product manager can ask follow-up questions in chat without starting a new analysis from scratch. Lifecycle marketing can hand it a Braze campaign ID and ask what recipients did afterward, including whether people who clicked went on to use a feature. Revenue growth can track how events affect pipeline and turn results into charts for presentations.
SpaceXSI also says Data Bot can plan a fuller analysis, query the warehouse, explore explanations and produce a written report with charts or a Hex dashboard the team keeps using.
The one figure in the post
SpaceXSI estimates that in the week before the November 2 post, Data Bot handled about 70 hours of work that would otherwise have landed on the data science team. That is the company's estimate, not an independent measurement. The post does not say how many people use it, what it costs or whether an equivalent bot is available to customers outside SpaceXSI.
What is still unclear
- Whether Data Bot, or the same Team Bot pattern, is generally available outside SpaceXSI.
- Pricing, plan requirements and which warehouse connections customers would get.
- How often managers reject proposed shared-memory additions, and how the bot behaves when it is wrong.
We will update this if SpaceXSI publishes a customer-facing product page or changelog entry.
Why it matters
Team Bots are shared agents with a role, skills and memory. Data Bot is a concrete case: one maintained skill set, manager-reviewed memory, Slack routines and warehouse access. If that model holds up, data teams spend less time on repeat questions and more time on the analyses that still need a person.
