TL;DR: On Wednesday, Nov. 4, the official Grok Bot account on X posted that Grok Bot can now make phone calls, with a demo video. In the demo, the bot spots a contract about to renew, gets the user's go-ahead, calls to cancel and turns down a 10% discount. SpaceXSI had not published details on who gets it or what it costs at the time of writing, so this stays reported: the post is official, but the rollout details come from news coverage.

What was announced

At 1:13 p.m. ET, @bot posted: "Grok Bot can now make phone calls." The post carried a short video. It comes about ten days after Elon Musk first described the feature on Oct. 25, when it was only in preview builds, according to Teslarati.

What the demo shows

TeslaNorth describes the 42-second clip this way:

  • The bot notices an internet contract renews in three days and asks whether it should call and cancel.
  • The user says yes and adds not to let the company talk them into a discount.
  • A "Phone call" card names who the bot plans to call, with Cancel and Call buttons. The call goes out only after the user taps Call.
  • During the call, a live transcript shows both sides, and Take over and End call buttons stay on screen.
  • When the support agent offers 10% off for a year, the bot declines, and afterward reports back in chat that the plan is canceled.

Who can use it, as reported

ABAB News reports that it is mainly for eligible U.S. accounts calling U.S. numbers, is rolling out gradually by account, and needs the latest app version. Teslarati reports that the Grok Bot terms require each call to identify itself as a virtual assistant calling for the user, warn that calls may be recorded, and prohibit marketing, mass calling and impersonation. We could not check the terms or the rollout details on an official page, so treat them as reported.

SpaceXSI's docs say Grok Bot is included with the Premium, Super and Ultra plans of The X Subscription, and not with Plus (SpaceXSI docs). The docs say Grok Bot usage draws from a weekly pool shared with Grok and Cursor. Neither the X post nor the coverage says how a phone call counts against that pool.

What is still unknown

  • Whether calls cost extra or count more heavily against the weekly allowance. Teslarati notes SpaceXSI has not said, and a long call on hold could use a lot.
  • Which countries come after the U.S.
  • How well it works in practice. Teslarati also reports that one user said a rep refused to cancel once it was clear an AI was calling, and that other users posted their own results. Those accounts are unverified.
