Reusable booster

A rocket's first stage that lands and flies again, a large part of why Falcon 9 can fly so often.

Why it matters

Most of a rocket's cost is in its first stage. Falcon 9's booster flies back and lands, on a droneship at sea or a pad on land, then is refurbished and flown again, some of them dozens of times.

Reuse is what lets SpaceX launch Starlink batches week after week, and Starship is designed to take it further by reusing both stages. Pad Zero's Falcon 9 page tracks the reuse record with its date.
