Grok & agents
Why it matters
An application programming interface lets a developer's own app send a request to a model and get the answer back. Apps, websites and agents that use Grok behind the scenes do it through the API.
API news, such as a new model becoming available or prices per million tokens changing, is aimed at developers, but it shapes what ordinary users see in the apps built on top.
Related terms
- Token
- A chunk of text, often part of a word, that models read and write. API prices are quoted per million tokens.
- AI agent
- An AI that takes actions toward a goal, such as clicking, filling in forms or running code, instead of only replying. Grok Bot is an agent.
- Large language model (LLM)
- An AI model trained on huge amounts of text to predict the next word, which lets it answer questions, write and code. Grok is a family of LLMs.
